Global Sea Ice Concentration (AMSR-2)
Operational Near real time productIce concentration is computed from atmospherically corrected AMSR-2 brightness temperatures, using a combination of state-of-the-art algorithms. The product series is operational since 2017. This product is complementary to the SSMIS global sea ice concentration product (OSI-401 series).

File Formats : HL FTP Server (NetCDF3), EDC (NetCDF3), EUMETCast (NetCDF3)
Characteristics & methods : The High Latitude Level 3 Global AMSR Sea Ice Concentration consists of these major fields:
- Sea ice concentration. Indicates the fraction of a given ocean grid point covered by ice (daily averaged fractional ice cover in percentage).
- Uncertainties. The algorithm uncertainty, the smearing uncertainty and the resulting total uncertainty of each sea ice concentration grid cell.
- Confidence level. Based on the daily standard deviation within each grid cell, provided as a guide.

Accuracy Requirements
Target accuracy : 10 % for NH-product. 15 % for SH-product
Verification/validation method : Comparison with high spatial resolution manual ice charts (available between twice a week and once a week) : the performance shall be validated for only the “ice” and “water” cases, separately.
Applications and users
Usage : Climate models, NWP and Ocean/Ice models, operational Met and Sea Ice services.
