Metop-C ASCAT coastal Winds

Operational Near real time product

The ASCAT Wind Product contains measurements of the wind direction and wind speed above the sea surface. The measurements are obtained through the processing of scatterometer data originating from the ASCAT instrument on EUMETSAT's Metop-A satellite, as described in the ASCAT Wind Product User Manual.

Detailed history :

The product series is operational since 2009:

  • Metop-A 12.5 km product (OSI-103) operational from 03/03/2009, discontinued on 28/04/2015
  • Metop-A coastal product (OSI-104) operational from 28/04/2015. The coastal wind product has superseded the 12.5 km wind product.
  • Metop-B coastal product (OSI-104-b) operational from 27/05/2013
  • Metop-C coastal product (OSI-104-c) operational from 2 October 2019
