Dear OSI SAF users, colleagues and partners,

We are delighted to deliver the second edition of the OSI SAF newsletter ! OSI SAF is currently transitioning into its next 5-year phase of activities.

This new phase will see the launch of Meteosat Third Generation and EUMETSAT Polar System - Second Generation. We look forward to continuing to work with you and developing future OSI SAF products.

We are always happy to hear from you. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions about our products or training needs.

Record-low Antarctic Sea Ice in February 2022

A minimum Antarctic sea-ice extent for 2022 was reached on February 18 with an ice coverage of 2.17 million km², making this a new all-time record-low sea-ice extent since the start of the satellite observations. However the overall situation is more complicated. Learn more in this story.

Development of a series of Jupyter notebooks. 

Notebooks will be developed for different products and concern several aspects : Data access / Exploring the file structure / Mapping the data / Application examples.

The 11th International Workshop on Sea Ice Modelling, Assimilation, Observations, Predictions and Verification (aka IICWG-DA-11) will take place in Oslo on 21-22-23 March 2023, at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
