Spectacular warming of Sea Surface Temperature in the Baltic Sea

On the left hand side of the figure, you can see the SST climatology derived from the OSTIA reanalysis.

The right hand side shows the SST from the OSI SAF processing of Metop AVHRR: we can see a warming of more than 5°C between the 21st and the 25th of June 2020.

This warming is much greater than usual as you can see on the SST climatology. This rapid warm-up is in correlation with the heat peak linked to a powerful high pressure which was positioned around Belgium on June 23.
