OSI SAF at the EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference 2026
-
The 2026 EUMETSAT annual Meteorological Satellite Conference will celebrate the organisation's 40th anniversary. For this occasion, it will take place in Darmstadt, Germany from 21 to 25 September 2026.
-
Over the years, the EUMETSAT satellite conference has become a key annual event for the meteorological and scientific communities where participants from around the world can meet to share their experience and knowledge during plenary, poster and workshop sessions.
As every year, a delegation of the OSI SAF project team will join the conference. They will take part to the exchange with 11 presentations.

Oral presentations
OSI SAF project team will present their work into 3 thematic sessions:
5.A - Wind - Thu. 24/09 10:45 - 12:30
- ASCAT higher resolution winds closer to the coast - 11:15-11:30 - by Anton Verhoef, Jeroen Verspeek, Ad Stoffelen
OSI SAF wind team has been developing a new 6 km ASCAT wind product. They here present the status of their work.
2.E – Climate Data Records and information products - Thu. 24/09 - 14:00 - 16:00
- A new version of the Arctic and Antarctic Surface Temperature from thermal Infrared satellite sensors Climate Data Record - AASTI version 3 - 15:45 - 16:00 - by Wiebke Margitta Kolbe, Gorm Dybkjær, Steinar Eastwood
Our Sea and Ice Surface Temperature team is planning to release a new version of its AVHRR based polar Climate Data Record. The lastest version of this product, developed under OSI SAF, will be presented here.
5.A - Snow and Sea Ice - Fri. 25/09 - 10:45 - 13:00
- The EUMETSAT OSI SAF Sea Ice Drift Climate Data Record: Presentation and Early Analysis - 11:00 - 11:15 - by Thomas Lavergne, Emily Down
The Sea Ice Drift Climate Data Record, along with its complementary Interim Climate Data Record (still under development), will be presented here. The validation and initial analysis of patterns and trends will also be covered. - OSI SAF Near-Real-Time Sea Ice Concentration products and plans for CDOP5 - 11:15 - 11:30 - by Suman Singha, Hoyeon Shi, Luis Flores Vargas, André Emil Toft Jensen, Wiebke Margitta Kolbe, Eva Howe
Here will be presented the future developments of the Near Real Time Sea-Ice catalogue, over the next 5 years. - OSI SAF Sea-Ice Index v3.0: An operational climate index for monitoring global sea-ice trends and variability - 12:15 - 12:30 - by Signe Aaboe, Thomas Lavergne, Atle Sørensen, Steinar Eastwood, Wiebke Kolbe
Here will be presented the first operational version of the Sea Ice Index, and its new features.
Note The session "5.A - Sea Surface Temperature" (wed. 23/09 14:00 - 15:30) is related too with our activities. Although not having presentations directly related to our products, you might come along our project team there too.

Posters
Additionaly to the oral presentations, two poster sessions will allow to exchange arroung presented poster with their author:
- Tuesday, 17:00 - 18:30
- Thursday 17:00 - 18:30
For each of the poster sessions, a lightning session will allow to get a short oral overview of most of the posters. Order in which the poster will be lightened is, to writing date, not clear, however they will take place in Spectrum A during the hour prior to the poster session itself.
OSI SAF project team is coming with 6 different posters to present its work:
- What to expect from OSI SAF in its next project phase (CDOP5)? by Gwenaël LE BRAS, Cécile Hernandez, Stéphane Saux Picart, Steinar Eastwood, Anton Verhoef, Ad Stoffelen, Eva Howe, Suman Singha, Jean-François Piollé (poster n°172)
This poster presents in a synthetic way the current product available and future forseen developments for the next 5 years. - Optimizing 1D-Var Near-Surface Wind Speed from SSMIS with RapidScat by Sisma Samuel, Anton Verhoef, Ad Stoffelen (poster n°455)
This poster presents the work currently taking place to developp Microwave Radiometer based wind speed product, though intercomparisons with colocated scatterometers. - Sea Ice Retrieval Using WindRAD Dual-Frequency Scatterometer by Zhen Li, Anton Verhoef, Ad Stoffelen (poster n°95)
