Switch from GOES-16 to GOES-19 for sea surface temperature (SST) - update
This message is sent again because there was a typo in the file name for the Ifremer FTP server.
A typical new file name is: 20250318060000-OSISAF-L3C_GHRSST-SSTsubskin-GOES19_ABI-v02.1-fv01.0.nc
NOAA has announced that GOES-16 will be replaced by GOES-19 in East position on 4 April 2024, between 09:00Z and 15:10Z.
The OSI SAF product based on GOES-16 input, OSI-207-b GOES-East Sea Surface Temperature, will be replaced by OSI-207-c GOES-East Sea Surface Temperature, based on GOES-19 input.
The updated product will be distributed with an "operational" status and with a global attribute file_quality_level 2 (suspect : occasional problems) until a scientific validation report is available.

Nevertheless, we hope that the initial processing of GOES-19, a satellite of the same series as GOES-16, will be of similar quality to the one currently achieved with GOES-16 data.
The variable quality_level, reflecting the quality of the retrieved SST per pixel, will be between 2 (bad) and 5 (excellent).
No match up with in situ data have been collected. Therefore, the algorithm has not been adjusted to in situ data, as this is usually the case.
The Single Sensor Error Statistics (SSES) have not been computed, so GOES-16 SSES are used temporarily.
The files distributed on EUMETCast will have exactly the same name as the current one.
See the typical file name: S-OSI_-FRA_-GOES-H__SST_FIELD-202503180400Z.nc
The files distributed on the Ifremer FTP server will have a slightly different name because their file name includes the number of the satellite. Here is a typical new file name:

You can find an example of a file on the LML FTP server (ftp://ftp.ifremer.fr/) accessible with the username anonymous, in the directory /ifremer/cersat/projects/osisaf/sst/l3c/west_atlantic_east_pacific/goes-test/
This file is named according to the latest GHRSST Data Specification, this is the typical file name to be used on the Ifremer FTP server.
The file distributed on EUMETCast will have a different name (see above) but will have exactly the same content.
